25k for a shed ,,, LOL bigest problem is the cost ov land !! Its 2012 , we can build almost any thing and all jokes apart for 25k in matereals you could build a good house ! , I have been a builder for my whole life and building has only just started to apply the available tec and matereals in the last 10 years to the house building market , its got a long way to go ! ALL NEW HOUSES could cost almost nothing to run ! My brother built his own 7 years ago his biggest regret is conecting it to the grid ! planning more or less made him do it ! , the cost of conecting it was more than than 10 years utility bills , so he has calculated !! So like always the system is set up against US to keep us paying !!

Chris, land is cheap as chips now. If you take the time to look at the website you will not that it is very far from a 'shed'. It also functions better than 99% of the current housing stock in this country. Technology and materials only offer part of the solution the bulk of the problem lies in our attitude to consumption and our offensive sense of entitlement to the resources of this planet. All new houses could cost nothing to run only if they remained unoccupied! This house is a good example of how we all (builders included) ought to be thinking.

I understand what you are saying about it being a shed but in point of fact it is designed as a home rather than most houses which are sheds made to appear as homes, a visual finish but not in essence working as a home. I know I worked on the house with Dominic. Micheal

Hi Micheal.
Good to see you visiting the forum. I didn't post in this topic before but as I said in the email I sent you I think this house is fantastic, both the concept and design. OK I may not be over the moon about the exterior, but in my understanding it was design to look that way on purpose to fit in with the 'Irish Vernacular' that is discussed on the site. Thats fair enough, I would probably clad it differently and others would probably do it differently again, at the end of the day thats only the skin of it.
If I had a bit of spare money I would love to build a place like that somewhere, but unfortunatly I have a huge mortgage and no equitr to speak off, so I'm stuck for now.
Good Luck Jim
