Clever use of heavy duty gate hinge hardware for the swivel. I think he has the elevation fixed at 45 degrees, and the swivel will provide tracking of the sun's orientation in the horizontal plane (azimuth). Attachments:

I am keen to see how this all turns out, my tracker involves frequent trips to the roof to move the by hand! and keeping a fanatical eye on the readout of my controller.. but I do struggle with electronics..

i now have close-up pics of Krzysztof's 'timer based' controller and also Caveman's 'sun tracking' controller, both of which i will post up here later in week.
We could all discuss the pros and cons of each. Even if you are not able to make a controller, you could fairly easily rig up an actuator, such as a 'ram' (really a wormscrew operated by a gearhead motor all sealed up in a waterproof enclosure) used to move a satellite dish, which could be worked remotely ? Varying degrees of automation possible I think is what I'm saying.
