Happy new year to all our readers! Cye and I have decided to change how the workshops are to be organised and funded. As you all know the workshops to date have been free of charge. Passing the hat around to cover our expenses has not worked. Donations collected at more than half of the workshops did not cover even the most basic travelling expenses, which left Cye and I out of pocket. We have also purchased demonstration equipment in the hope that donations would eventually allow us to recup the costs. That doesn't seem possible with our current system. It has also become clear that The Solarco-op needs a hosted website as the forum is a limited format particularly where images and embeded video is concerned. So, here is the bottom line. From now on the workshop will cost £30 per head and we would like a minium of 15 participants. A deposit will be required at the time of booking. Bookings, venue and tea and buns for half time are to be organised by the host group. Conor

Hi, You want to charge for the workshops, Your not going to give your time for free Your not going to pay for your own transport and other costs Well all I can say is - about time ;D, as a past participants to a workshop I can say that it is well worth £30.00. Personally I think it should be run as a profit making organisation, with the profits going either to the demonstrators/presenters or to the funds of the solar co-op. If you guys need some hosted webspace I can let you have some on my re-seller account, and assuming I don't get billed extra for traffic etc then there would be no extra charges to the co-op, let me know if you are interested. Jim, That is very kind of you to say so. Cye and I have yet to discuss how to go about the website, neither of us is skilled at web design and in truth, when we have time for the Solarco-op project we would rather be in or sheds making, fixing or bodging our way to a low energy/carbon lifestyle, than shoving a mouse around, however a website is a must. Again your offer is very generous. Conor

No problem.
If you aren't into webdesign etc I'd advise you to use a system like wordpress for the site. It's dead easy to set up and easy to use, not to mention quick. There are a lot of options for the forum as well, but I'm not familiar with them.
If you need any help just ask (i'm not an expert or anything, just a semi-competent user)

I had a visit from 2 very energetic people last week. We talked about the usual stuff and to cut what would be a very long story short, they are planning a workshop in Galway. Cye is up to his neck with work for the next 5 weeks so it will happen sometime after that. We are hoping for a good turn out and we know there are folks who couldn't make the workshop in the university last year so here is another chance. Keep an eye out here or get in touch to find out where and when. I will post details as and when I get them. conor
